Small amounts of fats are necessary to provide us with essential fatty acids and to allow the absorption of fat-soluble vitamins. The troubles start when you eat more than you should. And most of us do. Many fatty foods are rich in saturates, which raise blood cholesterol and increase the risk of heart disease.
The following high fat foods should only be eaten in small amounts: oils, spreading fats, mayonnaise, cream, cakes, biscuits, pastries, puddings, crisps, chips, salty savoury snacks and chocolate.
