The Art of Healthy Eating

Lesson Ten

Feeling thirsty? Whether you are or not, grab a glass of cold water and come back when you’re done.

The thing is, thirst isn’t actually a very good guide to how hydrated your body is. You can become dehydrated without even realising it.

Staying hydrated is essential to your gut’s health. A lack of water can make you constipated. And even being 5-10% dehydrated can make you feel tired and lacking in energy.

The colour of your urine is a much better indicator than thirst of how hydrated your body is. Pale yellow shows you are adequately hydrated, Dark yellow suggests you may not be getting enough of the wet stuff.

Here’s a check list to keep your body hydrated.

1) Drink at least 6-8 glasses of water a day. More if it’s a warm day or if you’re doing any kind of exercise.
2) Don’t rely on thirst as a sign that you need to take a drink
3) Eat plenty of fruit and vegetables. They’re a good source of fluids.
