The Art of Healthy Eating

Lesson Six

We’re getting to the meat of your training. Red meat to be exact.

As you know, red meat is a good source of protein, iron and minerals. However, studies have shown that too much processed meat can cause colorectal cancer. At Yakult, we’re all for a bit of red meat. Just as long as it’s chosen wisely and as part of a sensible diet.

If you’re not a meat eater, there are still plenty of ways to get enough protein and iron. You’ll find protein in tofu, beans, nuts, seeds, broccoli, asparagus, spinach and sprouts. And you can get your iron from dark leafy greens or dried beans, and dried fruits like raisins.

Swap processed meat like burgers, ham, bacon and sausages for lean red meat. A healthy portion is about the size of a pack of playing cards. Make sure you eat it with fibre-rich vegetables, beans and pulses.

And if you’re a vegetarian, next time you’re in the supermarket, try to pick up as many protein-packed vegetables as you can.
