If you don’t mind us asking, are you eating enough fruit and veg?
Fruit and vegetables contain vitamins, fibre and naturally occurring plant chemicals called phytonutrients. Which is a good word to use in scrabble.
So how much is enough? Well, we should all eat at least 5 servings a day (ideally 3 vegetables, 2 fruit.) A variety of colours is best, seeing as those that are a similar colour are likely to contain similar nutrients.
Today, try having two more servings of fruit and vegetables than normal.
Here are some examples of what one serving could equate to:
• Three tablespoons of cooked vegetables
• One breakfast sized bowl of salad
• One cup of carrot and celery sticks, or one cup of cherry tomatoes
• One small glass of unsweetened fruit juice
• One apple, orange, peach or pear
• Two kiwi fruits, plums, satsumas or fresh apricots
• One slice of melon or pineapple
• One cup of strawberries, raspberries or grapes
