The Art of Preventing Gut Problems

Lesson Five

Badminton keeps you regular. You heard it here first.

You may find it hard to believe, but sport can actually improve your bowel habits. That’s because exercise relaxes your digestive system. Making it less sluggish.

But you don’t have to take up a new sport. Just having a brisk walk every lunchtime can help to de-stress your gut. Our experts recommend you work towards walking 10,000 steps every day. About five miles, give or take.

Here are some simple tips for better walking.

1. Try using an iPod or other MP3 player to add entertainment to your walk.
2. Set some realistic goals – if you’ve been sedentary for a long time, start out slowly and aim for short distances
3. Pay attention to your posture – stand up straight, put your shoulders back, and take long strides
4. Don’t worry about how far you walk. The length of time you walk for is more important than the distance.
5. Increase the length of your sessions over time – aim for a five minute increase each time you walk
